Elise Hebb

Director of Investor Relations

Elise Hebb joined Madrona in 2007 and manages Madrona’s investor relations and business development. Over the last seven and a half years she has helped raise two funds, Madrona Venture Funds IV and V for a total of $550 million in commitments. While Elise spends the majority of her time focused on Madrona’s investors, which include some of the country’s top endowments and foundations, she also leads the charge on major events, including business development meetings between Madrona portfolio companies and the CIOs of large companies.

Past lives

Prior to joining Madrona, Elise managed the private equity portfolio for the University of Washington endowment from 2002 to 2006. “I invested in 15 venture capital firms and looked at hundreds of others. While there is no absolute formula that will tell you which firms will be successful and which won’t, you start recognizing certain patterns and behaviors that are similar across many of the best firms in the country. Madrona has all of those characteristics, and is one of the best firms in the country at investing in early-stage technology companies.”

Elise also served as CFO of Emerald Hill Capital Partners, a private equity fund of funds. Elise got her start in the private equity industry while a paralegal at Preston Gates and Ellis (now K&L Gates) where she helped build a practice advising large institutional investors on investments in private equity and venture capital.

Education

Elise earned her bachelor’s degree in English and Political Science from the University of Washington.

What’s exciting in technology

“There is no shortage of areas to be excited about in technology, but I am most interested in finding a team that has cracked the security problem by figuring out how to stay one step ahead of the bad guys instead of one step behind cleaning up the mess. On the consumer side, no one has figured out how to help me store, organize, and find all my digital assets. Music, photos, videos, files. I can’t wait for the day when I have it all organized. Amazon, Apple and Google have put average solutions in the market, but someone is going to get it right and it’s going to be a huge win.”

Inspiration

“People who dedicate their lives to making the world a better place. Teachers who make nothing and have the most influential jobs on the planet. Aid workers who leave their friends and families behind to help people in need. There is so much pain and suffering in the world, but I hope it is trumped by compassion, good works, innovation, and the basic human right of peace.”

Guilty pleasure

“Knowing anything and everything about the Seattle restaurant scene.”

“Your time is limited, don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” – Steve Jobs
