In 2006, Smartsheet (NYSE: SMAR) founders pitched their plan to design a SaaS product for team collaboration. In the depth of the 2008 recession, they had to rework the user interface and Madrona doubled down and invested alongside the founders. Smartsheet went public in 2018.
