“I really believe that no other venture firm will roll up their sleeves and work harder than Madrona to help make your company successful.”

At Madrona: Tim will look at new companies across all of Madrona’s investment areas but has an emphasis on the software, infrastructure, and wireless sectors.  He is particularly interested in SaaS, cloud computing, next-generation enterprise data centers, and opportunities created by new mobile platforms.  Tim serves on the boards of AlgorithmiaContext Relevant, SNUPI, and Union Bay Networks and is a board observer for ApptioExtraHop NetworksImpinj, Jama Software, JobalineSkytapSmartsheet, and Z2. He was previously on the boards of buuteeq (acquired by The Priceline Group, Inc.), Mobilisafe (acquired by Rapid7), Appature (acquired by IMS Health), and AppFog (acquired by CenturyLink Savvis). Tim is also a member of the three-person Investment Committee for the Alliance of Angels Seed Fund.

Past lives: Prior to joining Madrona in 2006, Tim was a key member of Microsoft’s Corporate Development group, where he shared responsibilities for sourcing, structuring, and negotiating Microsoft’s acquisitions, strategic investments and joint ventures.  While at Microsoft, Tim focused on enterprise software, security, and mobile and closed 14 transactions for over $850 million. Notable transactions included Microsoft’s acquisitions of Softricity, FrontBridge Technologies, ProClarity, Whale Communications, and Giant Company Software. Earlier in his career, Tim worked nearly five years for broadband satellite start-up Teledesic, spending his last year there also working for Craig McCaw’s Eagle River Investments.

Extracurricular: Outside of work, Tim enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children. He is also a sports junkie and enjoys watching and playing basketball, despite having lost the step he never had.

Tim received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
