Today we’re thrilled to announce Madrona’s investment in DevZero’s combined $26 million Series A and Seed funding round. We’re in great company partnering with investors like Anthos Capital, Foundation Capital, and others.
DevZero offers a cloud-based development platform that makes it easy for organizations of all sizes to configure, secure, and scale development environments to boost developer productivity. As DevZero explains it, developers currently spend up to 40% of their time maintaining development environments rather than writing code and building new products and features. These local environments are often constrained by the resources of their device, are non-collaborative, and cause problems when it comes to testing performance and security because not everyone has the same technological setup as the developer.
This is a problem that some of the world’s largest tech companies, like Meta, Google, Uber, and Amazon, have been able to solve by creating bespoke development environments that make software development more efficient, enjoyable, and profitable. Historically, there hasn’t been a solution available at scale for developers outside these large technology companies. But now, DevZero is democratizing what has previously only been available to elite, big-tech companies with cloud development environments that are fast, customizable, and ready to code in a single click.
Co-founders Debo Ray and Rob Fletcher are subject matter experts when it comes to building secure developer productivity tools. Debo, the CEO, is a 3x startup founder and former staff engineer at Uber, where he oversaw critical security projects across infrastructure and product development. Rob, COO, spent nearly two decades leading security and engineering teams at some of the world’s most elite technical organizations, including Facebook and Uber.
When we met Debo and Rob, we were impressed by their first-hand experiences with local development environment problems as long-time developers and their first-hand views of how these tools are built at large companies. But we also recognized that their customer-focused, collaborative, and data-driven style, mixed with their ambition to build a big company, would take them far.
We could not be more excited to partner with Debo, Rob, and the entire team at DevZero, on their solution to significantly improve engineering productivity.
