Investing in WisdomAI: BI in the age of AI

Over the past decade, we’ve seen a massive evolution within the data landscape, with the growth of data volume, the emergence of cloud data engines, and now with advancements in AI. However, existing BI solutions have lagged in adoption within enterprises — they tend to be overly technical, requiring users to engage at the semantic layer, or hyper-verticalized to only work within specific industries and silos. We believe the combination of a delightful, full-featured BI solution that offers broad reasoning and context capabilities without putting the burden on the user has the potential to transform what BI means in the age of AI. Today, we are thrilled to announce our investment and partnership with WisdomAI, a modern, AI-native data intelligence foundation that seamlessly integrates with existing infrastructure to unlock enterprise-wide insights.

From Generalization to Specialization

Advancements in search have set a new bar for how users expect to find answers, starting with ChatGPT for the consumer and companies like Glean for the enterprise. We believe there is a growing need and desire from customers for conversational, interactive tools that democratize data access.

Today, generalized software and AI products have become widespread. But we believe the next wave of Gen AI tools that make it into production within the enterprise will be through specialized use cases for various aspects of business operations. In the coming years, the right reasoning and context layer that taps into these verticals will be where the big opportunity is. In many ways, we envision a reimagining of data intelligence and business analytics.

The Whitespace with Natural Language Querying

With LLMs, Text-to-SQL technology has experienced meaningful advancements, converting natural language to SQL at a level of adaptability and precision that is meaningfully more effective than prior static, rule-based query generation. The semantic layer was originally built for humans to interact directly with and thus does not support nuances such as the ambiguity that comes with natural language and with AI. We are excited by the possibilities with AI-native architecture that obviates what has been traditionally required of users — in particular, the ability to explore the whitespace of natural language querying, while learning and adapting with time and usage, all without burdening the end user.

We understand that even with the cleanest semantic layer, LLMs still make mistakes when writing SQL queries, given the complexity and ambiguity of natural language. WisdomAI has created a unique “knowledge fabric” that ingests existing enterprise knowledge from unstructured and structured sources that understands business data intricacies and extends the capabilities of the semantic layer. This is their “secret sauce” to building a product that users love and trust.

Enter WisdomAI: Revolutionizing Analytics and Agentic Insights

WisdomAI offers innovative business insights agents designed for any employee to interact with, reason across data silos, and get instant answers from. It processes data from various sources while being trained on each organization’s specific needs. As there are more users and data added, WisdomAI adapts and improves model performance through an ever-refining cycle, with the goal of eventually pushing proactive insights as an autonomous data and reasoning engine.

We’ve known of Soham Mazumdar from his time as co-founder and chief architect at Rubrik and had the privilege of interacting with him and learning about his vision when we came across what he was building with WisdomAI. From our early interactions, we were impressed by Soham’s deep understanding of how the market needs to evolve with the needs of today, and what it takes to scale a business, with a focus on building enterprise-grade products with delightful and differentiated customer experience. Soham’s co-founders, Kapil Chhabra (former head of SaaS at Rubrik), Sharva Pathak (former founding engineer at Rubrik and Glean), and Gui Menezes (former engineer at Rubrik) bring together a unique combination of highly technical expertise, adaptability within a rapidly evolving AI ecosystem, and the right level of entrepreneurial grit to tackle a market ripe for disruption.

Today, we are thrilled to partner with the WisdomAI team, and announce our investment in the company alongside Coatue Ventures, GTM Capital, The Anthology Fund, and other prominent angels on the journey to power the next wave of data transformation! Let’s go!
