Why RelationalAI Will Revolutionize Next-Generation Data-Driven Intelligent Applications

When I first met Molham Aref and heard what he and his team at RelationalAI were building, I was blown away by his vision but was skeptical about whether he and the team could pull it off. For over a decade now, I have seen teams struggle to build intelligent applications at scale due to the vastness of data available across various data types. Having had the opportunity to spend the last year getting to know Molham and the team and seeing what they are building, I am confident this is the team that can revolutionize how data-driven intelligent applications are created. That’s why I decided to invest in RelationalAI.

At Madrona, we believe that data and data-driven intelligent applications are the next big market – a trillion-dollar or more opportunity akin to the opportunity that moving applications and workloads to the cloud has created. It’s that big. These applications are being built across all industries and customer groups.

RelationalAI is a next-generation database platform that, for the first time, combines the power of a relational database engine and a knowledge graph processing system. Its platform is fundamental to how next-generation data-driven intelligent applications will be built.

The proliferation of data has caused a new modern data stack to emerge with companies like Snowflake and Databricks, and the hyperscale cloud providers – AWS, Azure, and GCP – define the components. However, one critical piece of the modern data stack is missing today. That is the ability to effectively support “composite AI” workloads: graph analytics, reasoning, neuro symbolic AI (symbolic AI + deep neural networks) workloads and the like. These workloads are typically handled outside cloud relational database systems in a combination of navigational, procedural, and tensor-based technologies that lack the rigor, scalability, and reliability of relational databases.

We believe that durable, at-scale intelligent applications must be constructed with relational data graphs as a foundation to handle the vast amounts of data available and bring semantics and reasoning to bear. These intelligent applications will consist of composable services defined with declared and machine-learned knowledge and executed via a scalable reasoning engine.

RelationalAI is a next-generation database platform that, for the first time, combines the power of a relational database engine and a knowledge graph processing system. Its platform is fundamental to how next-generation data-driven intelligent applications will be built.

RelationalAI enables a wide range of data-driven intelligent applications that haven’t been possible before, from analyzing large graphs and running complex rules engines to generating machine learning models within seconds. Its platform uses modern compilation techniques and novel mathematical approaches to convert complex relational queries into intelligent execution plans that eliminate the significant overhead prevalent in current implementations, generating results orders of magnitude faster than existing systems.

Through proprietary new algorithms and techniques, RelationalAI makes it possible to support reasoning, graph, probabilistic, and optimization workloads relationally. Early customers can run queries and generate ML predictions, reducing volumes of complex code with declarative, human-readable logic. RelationalAI’s knowledge graph management system is cloud-native and architected to separate immutable storage from compute. This powerful combination is what makes RelationalAI the perfect complement for Snowflake, Databricks, Synapse, Redshift, BigQuery, and others, across all the different cloud providers.

Having had the opportunity to interact and work with Molham Aref and his team for the last year, I am very excited to have led the Series A funding round for RelationalAI. Also, the chance to work with Bob Muglia, who saw the early opportunity for Snowflake and is on the Board of RelationalAI, is equally exciting. The team that Molham has assembled is truly a dream team of technologists and business leaders. With Tiger Global leading the Series B funding round for RelationalAI, we are in a fortunate position to have more resources now at RelationalAI’s disposal to help realize its vision. Together, we are on the journey to complete the modern data stack and enable the next generation of data-driven intelligent applications.
